Getting to Monte Carlos & Nice from Cannes via Rail

I will be arriving at the Cannes port on a cruise on a Friday in November. I wish to take a train to Monte Carlos and Nice or possibly Eze. Where is the train station in Cannes? What are the fares? And is this possible when the ship arrives at 10am and departs at 8pm?

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

I don%26#39;t know about both Nice and Monte Carlo in the time you ave available, but there are plenty of trains along the cast - it would take around half an hour from Cannes to Nice. It may be necessary to take a taxi from the port to the rail station (others may advse).

Nice and Monte Carlo is easily enough to occupy your one day - Eze is a nice view but getting to the perched village and back by public transport (not very frequent bus) will consume a lot of your time unless you start to fork out on taxis. Also if the weather is not so good - November is often a bit wet - you wont get much of a view either.

The train station in Cannes is a couple of blocks behind the see front around ten to fifteen minuters from the port. Plenty to see in Cannes itself as well

As mentioned above it%26#39;s probably wise to forget Eze village this time.

You may find there is not enough time to see anything much in Monaco or Nice either if you try to do both given your small time window. Bear in mind that it will be getting dark by 5pm.

Assuming there isn%26#39;t a rail strike (like there is today) and that the trains are running on time, you should allow at least 1.5 hours from when you touch dry land in Cannes to travel to Monte Carlo. The 10 minutes walk to the Cannes train station , which NiceLife estimated is probably about right, then there is likely to be a queue at the station ticket office.

On the current timetable, there is a train from Cannes to Monaco at 10.40 due in Monaco just after 11.30 but you will have to get off the ship pretty quickly to catch it comfortably. The next train at 11.47 doesn%26#39;t get into Monaco until 1pm.

If you make the earlier train,it would be reasonable to spend a couple of hours or so in Monte Carlo then take the 100 bus from there to the Nice old town area and explore there. The tram runs to Nice rail station for your journey back.

Remember to build quite a lot of slack into your schedule as public transport is subject to frequent delays plus you could hit rush hour on your return.

Should you miss the earlier train, I would suggest leaving out Monte Carlo and to go only as far as Nice by rail.

If you are running really late or the trains are on strike or you feel like a more relaxing day , i would consider taking the 200 bus to Antibes and dividing the available time between Antibes and Cannes instead.

You might also want to visit St. Paul de Vence. You can take a train from Cannes to Cagnes sur Mer, and a bus to the village. St. Paul is closer to Cannes than Eze, and it%26#39;s my personal choice.

I usually make the trip in about an hour, depending upon how the train and bus schedules hook up. It can take longer, however, as the buses run about every 45 minutes. I%26#39;ve been able to visit St. Paul easily within a shorter time frame than you have.

You might also want to visit Nice, and I would suggest doing this on your way back to Cannes. The bus (400) from St Paul goes to Nice, stopping at its train station. You could spend some time in Nice, and as trains from there to Cannes are frequent, you wouldn%26#39;t have to worry about how long a wait you%26#39;d have between your bus and train. 2-3 hours in St. Paul is plenty, and if you check the train schedules before going to Nice%26#39;s Old Town, you shouldn%26#39;t have any problem making your boat.

Trains are faster than buses. That%26#39;s why I take the train past Nice to Cagnes sur Mer when traveling to St. Paul. In Cagnes sur Mer, the bus stop to St. Paul is to your right, over the freeway and across the street from the train station. The stop in St. Paul is at the post office. Perhaps someone else can tell you how to get from the train station to Nice%26#39;s Old Town...I%26#39;m less familiar with that.
