Nice day tripb by train

Staying in apartment in Nice 8 days next May, would like to take train to Cannes %26amp; maybe other day trips to Monaco %26amp; Italy Are the trains servicing these areas around Nice local trains or TGV or like. I am buying a France train Pass but will need to add extra days if it is only TGV that runs.

The entire coast is serviced by the local French SNCF railway system, with frequent trains to all towns along the coast. There is no advantage in the TGV, indeed its a disadvantage as technically you need to make an advance reservation each time you use one, which adds time and expense.

We were in Nice this past summer. The train station from Niceville is extremely easy to use. You can use the local trains and go to all of the areas. We went to Villefranche sur-mer, Monaco, Antibbes, Cannes and Eze. Depending on where you are staying, the train station can be an easy walk. You can get the local trains there easily. When you get to the train station, there is a schedule of all the SNCF trains. You can either get tickets at the booths from a person, or just as easy is from ticket machines. This way, you do not need to make any advance reservations and can decide that day what you would like to do.

Hi Annie,

Don%26#39;t limit yourself necessarily, to train journeys just because you have a pass, as bus trips are only one euro each.

Do visit places like St Paul de Vence which you must take a bus to.

thanks for you inof we should have plenty to see in 8 days using trains %26amp; buses

great news about no reservations as we have to pay $30 aus. every time we make a reservation thanks

Hi annietravels,

As has been posted, there is superb bus and rail transportation in the area. Some of these places are also wonderful walking spots, so have a great time and May will be beautiful !!

Yes getting along the coast from Nice by local (TER) trains is quite saitrward. There is also a less freqent service up into the mountains at Tende and a recnly reintroduced rail service between Cannes and Grasse. Fares are lower if you avoid %26quot;Period Brache%26quot; - roughly early morning rush hours and busy times on Friday and Sunday afternoons. Also don%26#39;t forget to date/time stamp your ticket at one of the yellow machines before getting on the train, which you don%26#39;t need to do when using your rail pass.
