Winter in Paris

I will be in Paris in the first days of January and would like suggestions to optimize my time in the city, considering that it will be winter.

I%26#39;ve been in Paris before but never at this time of the year, so any suggestion will be welcome.

Thanx! Merci!

Hi, not clear what you are thinking of as optimizing your time. There will be fewer tourists than in summer (I really like Paris in the winter) so shorter lines etc. But, some attractions may have shorter opening hours (e.g., towers of Notre Dame). Just go, and assume it will be much as usual but colder and without long lines (which is a more than fair tradeoff!) Have a good time.

Thank you for your reply and I believe I had been in most of those touristic sites, many times in Paris before, so I meant about places like nice restaurants, shops or any place that can worth a visit during cold days.

I suppose that there are lots of hidden gems inside the city.

I would plan much as you would any trip, except to figure you won%26#39;t spend as much time outdoors. Cafes usually have outdoor heaters or glass doors, so you can still watch the world go by, but you don%26#39;t get to bask in the sun as much.

I%26#39;d suggest if you have done most of the typical tourist things, find the smaller museums that you may have missed, there are some real gems. Marmottan, picasso, Cognac

I%26#39;d also think about building plans around sumptuous meals or take a special tour or cooking class. There are a lot of recommendations in the forums for favorite bars, restaurants and cafes -- spend the time hopping from one to another ( you may need a diet upon your return!!).

Here%26#39;s a list of small museums I pulled from another site: mouthfulsfood.com/forums//index.php… many of which have been touted on tripadvisor.

Thank you!

Another thought: the movies. Most of the big paris theaters have new release movies that are subtitled in French, so you get to watch them in English...
