Budget accommodation in Troyes

Does anyone know of any budget accommodation in Troyes for three adults. We will be travelling by car so we will need a car park. We would also like the accommodation to either be within walking distance of sightseeing or otherwise to be near transport.

Etap hotels are cheap. There is no charm but they normally have a double bed with single over the top, shower and toilet. They also have parking.

Hi there

I%26#39;ve been recommended the Balladins chain - we%26#39;ve never stayed in them before, but friends have recommended them. Therefore we%26#39;ve booked the one in Macon on the way south, and Troyes on our return journey. Macon was 35 Euros per room, Troyes 48 Euros.

You may have already been and gone, but could be handy for your next visit?

We travel down this Tuesday, so let me know how you got on. We%26#39;ve never been to Troyes before, so even though it%26#39;s a short stop, still looking forward to having an explore on our way home.

Many thanks for your reply. I will look up the Balladins Chain on the internet.

We do not leave until the end of June and like you, are looking forward to discovering Troyes.

If you get back before the 25th June I would appreciate hearing from you as to how you found the Troyes accommodation.

Hi there.

I actually booked the wrong hotel in Troyes - our friends said it should have been the hotelbb.com, Troyes Barberey, so we%26#39;ve cancelled the Balladins Which they think may be a bit of a dive ??) and booked the above. 44 euros, but they say it is a much nicer hotel.

We will be there on 2Oth June, so will let you know after that.

The B and B hotels in Troyes, although I am sure are very nice hotels, are in fact not within walking distance of the town centre. The Etap and I think the Ibis which is very close to it are walking distance of the town centre. This might be important to you.

Forgot to add the town is well worth a visit.

Not sure if it is too late for any additional comment, but we have just returned from a trip to Europe %26amp; stayed in Troyes while in France. It is a beautiful city and we stayed in the Hotel LeComte de Champagne - Euro74.00 for double B%26amp;B incl lock-up parking. The room was large %26amp; well set-up, a pleasant change from the usual shoe-box rooms in Europe. Breakfast was served in a delightful sun-room downstairs - nothing special about the food, but a comfortable venue for eating it.

Try to make some time to visit the Tool Museum - a most unlikely target for us but the quality and range of tools (ancient and modern) provide a fascinating insight into craftmanship in France.

Many thanks for your message. We do depart until 25 June so I will look up the hotel you stayed in on the internet.

Also many thanks for suggesting the Tool Museum. It certainly sounds like it is well worthwhile place to visit. This sort of information is what makes the Trip Advisor Forum so useful.

Many thanks

regards

I thought I%26#39;d update this, in case someone else reads the thread....

On our first trip through Troyes back in June, we stopped on the outskirts as recommended by friends. It suited us at the time, as all we wanted was an overnight stop, but realised what we had missed.

We%26#39;ve just come back from another trip to France and made sure we spent a few days in Troyes itself. The tool museum was fascinating - I think it was one of the highlights of the trip for my husband. The only accommodation which we could get in the centre was Hotel Splendid......OK for a base, but not the best we%26#39;ve stayed in.

On our next trip up from the south we won%26#39;t hesitate to break our journey here again, but will hope we have some choice of hotels (first choice would be Compte de Champagne - it looked lovely.
