We will be spending several days in Nice in 2009 and as we have previously seen most of the sights of the area, I thought I would try to learn more about some of the local wines, including the wines of the Var, Bellet and perhaps others.I am looking for ideas on producers to visit. Ideally I can reach these through a combination of local trains or buses, including the Chemin de Fer de Provence. Otherwise we will retain our car (we had planned on giving it up for the nice portion of our trip) and travel using that mode.
Any suggestions?

We decided to do this a few years ago, but were unsuccessful as we didn%26#39;t really prepare for it. We got the bus up to Bellet, hoping we%26#39;d just see one of the vineyards and knock on the door. We didn%26#39;t.
Bus 62 takes you up to Bellet, and addresses of all the vignobles are here:

As you say, it should be possible to get to Villars sur Var and the Clos St Joseph vineyard using the Chemin de Fer de Provence (train des pignes).
Alternatively, and obviously not the same, if you%26#39;re around during the right week in May or November, there%26#39;s the Salon des Gourmands in Cagnes sur Mer Hippodrome, which many producers visit to promote their wines. It%26#39;s about 7 euros to get in, then you just go round all the stalls and taste the wine free of charge. If you buy, and give them your address, you get a free ticket the next time round. It%26#39;s on this weekend.
