Hi cinabun22 !!
Been to quite a few of these places, but not in 8 days.
Slow down, smeel the roses, or the cheeses, or the pastries or the bangers and mash, or whatever !!
Have Fun !!

Its a lot of travelling - If you want to spend so much time in Salzburg you would be better off flying directly to Munich. You wont be up to much your first day in Salzburg after 12 hours travelling on a train, especially if you%26#39;re not used to travelling by sleeper.
You will never do ALL the sights of Paris in a day, but you are spending a whole day exploring 4 streets in Salzburg, which seems a little wasteful if time is so tight.
When I was younger, this is the sort of trip I would do on a 15 day pass - I dont think youre really going to see much except stations and highways unless youre really careful

I think you will need a vacation after a trip like that!
I visited most of those places on my very first trip to Europe way back in the 80%26#39;s however when I add up the time spent in London, Paris, Salzburg, Berchtesgaden,etc it took me just over 3 weeks to do that part of the trip not 8 days.
Seriously I would suggest dividing your trip in two. Either fly into London and spend your 8 days between London and Paris or fly into Munich and spend your 8 days doing the rest of your itinerary. Even then you will be rushing around and only skim the surface of these fabulous places.
If you are really set on visiting so many places in such a short time make sure you consider how all the travel you are planning for the first 3 days will impact on your enjoyment of the holiday. You have an overnight flight then 1 night in London, 1 night in Paris followed by an overnight train to Salzburg. I hope you can sleep on planes and trains ;-) You also need to factor in how much time you will waste checking in and out of hotels, and physically getting from one place to another.
However this is your holiday not mine - so it%26#39;s up to you to decide what you want to do. Whatever you decide - have a wonderful time!

If you%26#39;re young maybe. This is too much in too short of a time period. I%26#39;m exhausted just reading the itinerary. It could be compared to jokes made about tours where one says %26quot;It%26#39;s Tuesday so it must be Belgium.%26quot;
You should indeed slow down and smell the roses. It%26#39;s not a race and your memories may end up being a pretty blur.
We%26#39;ve been to London where we spent a week and we just returned yesterday from a fabulous week in Paris. We want to return and spend more time in each city. Cities need to be savored and enjoyed - otherwise just look at postcards and save your money.

%26quot;It%26#39;s Tuesday so it must be Belgium.%26quot;
I was going to offer, %26quot; Survivor Europe %26quot;,
but I was real young once, and I had real high speed, and I am lucky enough now to redo many things at a slower speed.
Have a Great Time !!

thanks guys. We know we%26#39;re not really going too in depth with all these places but we%26#39;re flying into london anyway because its so much cheaper and we though we would see paris because the two cities are so well connected. As for jet lag, we figured we would just keep going

I understand the urge to see as much as you can in a short span, but I think you%26#39;re trying to cram way too much in a short period of time (and I%26#39;m a veteran and advocate of the packed itinerary, to boot).
With a day or a day and a half each in London or Paris, you%26#39;ll barely scratch the surface. Either city could easily entertain you for the entire eight day span. Based on your itinerary, it seems like you%26#39;d be best served to focus your stay on Bavaria and Austria, rather than trying to include London and Paris as well (or focus on those two, and save up for a big Germany trip).
I fell in love with Salzburg, but realistically speaking, you%26#39;ll get a good feel of the city in the time you%26#39;ve allotted. There%26#39;s not much to Fussen, but Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are certainly a viable and recommended day trip from Munich-- I found castles disappointing until my visit to those two. Salzburg is also a doable day trip from Munich, although you could easily do an overnight without running out of things to see. Munich is a great base for a Bavaria/Austria trip. Berchtesgaden is very high on my list as well- haven%26#39;t been, but it%26#39;s on the list.
In the end, I%26#39;d either consider a Bavaria/Austria trip or a London/Paris trip. Both are great options, but you%26#39;ll enjoy them much more if you give either trip a full eight days.

when I read the title of this thread I expected to read about a lovely trip, something at least 3 or 4 weeks long, and that allowed time for sight seeing and enjoying a drink in a cafe here and there.
Instead I read about the Bataan Death March..
8 days is two cities. It is ok to do a trip to Europe in 8 days, for many that is all you have, but not to do so many places.. it is such a rush .
And age and enegery level have nothing to do with it, I was young once too, and my %26quot; Ultimate%26quot; trip was a few months long. Now, I realize not everyone can do that, but at the very least you can take the time to see and experience the places you are going to, not just the train stations.
I have done all these places,( except Rothenburg) and they are all great, but you have two trips here, as noted by another poster. Choose either London and Paris, OR Austria/Germany/Switzerland but you really should not do it all on one trip. Its a moot point, you won%26#39;t really be able to , once you work out the drive times, the train schedules etc, you will see you will have no time to enjoy anything .
|||
I think you%26#39;ll spend more time in airports and railway stations than in Europe ... I%26#39;d endorse the previous comments about limiting your trip to two destinations - London and Paris sounds fine. Or maybe Munich and Salzburg?
|||
Adding my voice to the chorus...Either do London and Paris, or do Germany, but doing both is just way too much for only a week. I%26#39;ve done Paris and Germany, and not included London -- in TWO weeks -- and still felt like I was zooming from place to place.
When you get back, you want memories -- not just a memory card in your camera that has pictures of things that you barely remember...and a pocketful of travel receipts. Take time to make memories, and not just ticking items off of a list.
And the jet lag WILL get you if you don%26#39;t allow your body to adjust. It won%26#39;t be a matter of %26quot;just keep going%26quot;, it will be losing a day because you%26#39;re so exhausted from trying to keep to that schedule that your body just stops. Take from someone who%26#39;s been there and done that -- putting %26#39;taking care of your body%26#39; anywhere but priority number one will result in you feeling ill, because your body will just go on strike and MAKE you rest.
