I will be in Paris for a few days including New Years Eve. I have search without succes at this stage to see if there are any fire works on as I thought this might be a nice and cheaper way to welcome the new year in. We are happy to walk (although I understand it will be rather cold). We are staying near the Louve.
Is there anyone out there that can provide information or perhaps has some other suggestions to celebrate new years eve....even if its earlier in the evening.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

Of course there is a big fireworks display, I have not been a New Years, but I understand the big celebration is near the ET and many people gather behind the ET in the Champs du Mars( open area ) and picnic and stay to watch the fireworks. Yes, it will be cold, especially if you wait for hours, but understand it is quite the event. Dress well and watch for pickpockets.
YOu will likely be able to see the fireworks without going all the way there though, its quite a walk back tohotel from 7th to 1st,, so why not contact your hotel ( unless someone answers here hopefully) and ask if there is a good view of fireworks from the Tuilleries or Place du Concord, both of which are near your hotel area.

On New Year%26#39;s Eve, people gather near the Eiffel Tower and the Champs Elysees and celebrate with champagne and maybe some personal fireworks--but there are usually no official big scheduled firework displays.
The celebration for NYE, Dec. 1999, has not been repeated.

I had heard that there is no organized fireworks.
I did hear another location people go is the to gather is the Sacre Coeur. Is that correct. We will have 2 children with us so were looking for somewhere lively but safe. I was originally thinking of heading to Trocadero, though we are staying near Pigalle so I haven%26#39;t figured out transportation back and such.

There is no outdoor celebration for NYE and no fireworks. French usually celebrate with friends and family at home, sometimes in restaurants, they are not used to go and drink in the streets as Italian (or German or Dutch) do.
Restaurants usually have expensive special menus.

Thanks to all who replied to my post.
I%26#39;m still a little unsure what to do but may just be flexible and see what we are advised on the day. I%26#39;ve seen the price of what they are wanting to charge for dinner and show at Moulin Rouge but I%26#39;m not prepared to pay around A$2000 when I could go another night for about A$400
We are thinking of heading to Sacre Coeur for new years day as I believe there are celebration/ parade on the day of the year.
I%26#39;m sure what ever we do will be great, just being in Paris is exciting.
Regards
Sandra
