Le Chene Gris

We have just returned from our holiday at this campsite with vacansoleil and what a disappointment. As we have 2 children under 5 we requested a tent close to the sanitary facilities (and paid extra for this request which is ridiculous) and when we got there we were given one about as far away as you can get we asked to be moved but were told there wasn%26#39;t anything so money down the drain !

Apparantly the campsite had undergone a major refurbishment but it was scruffy with no proper roads just big boulders the place looked like a quarry.

The showers were terrible a lukewarm trickle at best. The weather wasn%26#39;t brilliant so we were looking foward to at least being able to use the covered heated pool - they must have had it on the lowest setting because it was freezing.

The site was geared towards the Dutch and the menus for the restaurant and takeaway were in French and Dutch which didn%26#39;t help.

The childrens club was a joke it was supposed to be 90 minutes twice a day but when we took them over the rep told us it would only be for an hour they just put them in a room and had them colouring and painting pictures and that%26#39;s about it really. The entertainment was poor we have always gone out of season previously and paid a lot more money for the school holidays this time around so we could get good kids clubs and entertainment which we didn%26#39;t get.

Quite a number of people we met had been there previously and they all said it was so much better last year and they would find alternative accomodation for Disneyland in future.

I also heard from other parents that their children had been very ill since using the pool (mine didn%26#39;t use it) of course it cannot be proven that the pool was at fault but it does seem a coincidence that they were all fine beforehand.

We have holidayed several times with Keycamp and Siblu and their campsites are in a different league to this one, they are well kept and even in low season their entertainment and childrens clubs were far superior to what we got in high season.

I have never had cause to complain about any holiday we have been on and hope that it was more about this site than the operator I felt so concerned I emailed Vacansoleil to make my feelings known and am awaiting their reply.

I certainly would not recommend anyone to visit this site the range of accomodation in this area is plentiful and I am sure more value for money.

I agree.

I spent a weekend here at the end of September. While the chalet was first class (very new) the rest of the site was disappointing.

The small shop on site is only open 0730 to 1000 in the morning and on Monday and Friday evenings from 1700 to 1800. We left Dover on a 08.30 ferry and didn%26#39;t arrive until 1730, so by time we got checked in and got back to the shop it had closed. The reception staff were good enough to direct us to a local supermarket that was open til 1900.

We tried the on-site resturant but when we got there at 2100 there was a small group (6 ish) of very drunk brits doing karaoke as loud as possible and we couldn%26#39;t even hear ourselves speak to order a meal. We went to a small resturant across the road, which was nice, but not great for a 10 year old that doesn%26#39;t really like french food. There were a few other Brit couples that had clearly done as we had.

There is a railway station right outside the campsite entrance but the train service to Paris on Sat and Sun is pretty poor. The last train back from Paris on Saturday arrives at 2030. So for our day trip to Paris we drove to EuroDisney, parked there for 10 euro and had loads of trains to choose from.

The reception staff gave us a good set of directions to get to EuroDisney avoiding the Toll Road (although that%26#39;s only Euro 1.90). The directions didn%26#39;t do the reverse route though and I ended up lost for 20 mins in the French countryside and went down the Toll Road route in the end as we%26#39;d found that easy on arrival.

As it rained heavily overnight, the ground was sodden and the site hasn%26#39;t got tarmac roads so everything got a bit muddy.

All saying, we only paid Sterling £160 for the weekend accommodation and ferry fare through the SUN so can%26#39;t complain. I%26#39;d use it again as a base at that price, but wouldn%26#39;t stay there if I had to pay anything near their brochure rates
