Hi,
I%26#39;ve booked a chalet in Les Bettaix which is supposed to be a few km south of Les Menuires for the middle of January 09.
Has anyone stayed there before or know the area?
It says it is ski-in ski-out off piste but would the snow conditions be good enough then?
Also at night time is it easy to get to les menuires to go out?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

hello - i am in the same boat as you and have booked a chalet with friends in Les Bettaix. We have been advised that the village is quite quiet in the evenings with a few restaurants but no night life, for which you would have to get a taxi into Les Menieures - our ski host has said they will drop us off in town one night of the week so that is also an option - have you asked your hosts?
As far as ski-in/out goes, I would have thought that the village is around 1700m and so there will be plenty of snow. Last year I was in la tania (1350) (admittedly slightly later in the season) and there was plenty of it about at that level
Maybe someone can confirm this point?
heres the piste map in case you haven%26#39;t seen it yet:

See you on the slopes!

Hi, I have stayed in the Ski Amis Catered Chalets in Le Bettaix twice during last season. We had a 100 metre walk in our boots to the ski lift which takes you towards Les Menuires, you then have to do a little ski down to another set of ski lifts which take you up into Les Menuires. On the way home there is a blue run down to the bottom ski lift and then your 100 metre walk back to the chalet. There are no bars in Le Bettaix except a German bar across the stream from the Ski Amis chalets, I didn%26#39;t try it but some of our party did and it is very basic. There is one restaurant in the middle of the Ski Amis chalets but we got the Ski Amis driver to take us to a village about 15 mins away on the hosts night off. When we got back each day we had tea and cakes and the evening meal doesn%26#39;t get served till 8/830, by the time we had finished eating and drinking the free wine it was gone 10pm most nights and we played games and cards in the chalet and didn%26#39;t go out. We really enjoyed it, the snow was great New Year week. Our second time was early April, and although down in Le Bettaix it was starting to melt, up in Les Menuires and Val Thorens there was plenty of snow. We have booked to go back 10th Jan 2009. We bought a 3 Valleys pass and went to all the resorts, Meribel, Corchival, Val Thorens, there is so much ski-ing you are spoilt for choice which way to go each day. I am happy for you to email me if you would like any further information. sharon.wright50@ntlworld.com
