G%26#39;day everyone
I have read through many posts on Eperney and am very grateful to all who have contributed. Your time and insights have been appreciated.
1) Whilst we are travelling through Eperney on a tightish budget our one big splurge is going to be dinner at the Royal Champagne (yikees my credit card will be in pain). Do they do a degustation menu with wines champagnes etc????
2) I assume there will be places to buy fresh bread, cold meat, pate, cheese etc so we can make our own cheap meals?????
I appreciate your time in reading and answering these questions.
Regards

I think the best little restaurant in Epernay is called La Cave a Champagne on 16 rue Gambetta. The food is excellent and cost under 100 euros with a nice bottle of champagne.
There are fantastic baquette sandwiches to buy at the local boulangeries. These sandwiches cost about 3.50 euros each. Cheap for the quality. You can also purchase cheeses and deli meats at the grocery stores.

Thankyou for your reply. Or as they say in France merci.

Good choice for your splurge - wonderful setting at this restaurant and classic food. I%26#39;ve just checked their website (www.royalchampagne.com) and there is a surprise degustation menu at 110 euros, but this does NOT include wines (there are cheaper menus too). My advice is to ask the sommelier when you get there whether you can have different wines with each course by the glass - it MIGHT be possible - but make sure you discuss your budget with him/her - some sommeliers are very happy with this sort of discussion, providing you show a real interest in wine and are flattered to be asked to choose, but do discuss that budget or you risk being ruined!
Have a great time - and yes, there are plenty of places to buy things to make your own picnics etc. just watch lunchtime closures of some shops.
Have fun and bon appetit!

Thanks Wine Traveller
I have read many of your posts with great interest and they have helped me out alot.
We are very lucky here in WA to have some great wine producers in the Great Southern part of WA and of course the Margaret River region. But I am looking forward to tasting French wine. Tasting the variances in how their wine is produced- compared to ours.
Thanks again for all your info not only in this post but in all the others I have read.
cheers

In case you are unaware the Royal Champagne no longer has a Michelin star. This was confirmed to us after we experienced a disappointing lunch two months ago.
