Christmas Visit

Hello,

I plan on visiting Carcassonne with my mom right after Christmas for a few days. Could you recommend a good reasonably priced hotel?

Also, how long is a good stay? 3 days enough, 5 days too much?

Are there any special events for New Years?

And is it possible to get to the Cathar Castles by public transportation?
