Nearest petrol station to Marseille airport

Hi,

Does anyone know where the nearest pertrol station to Marseille airport is? I want to avoid the full tank option by filling up nearby before returning the hire car.

Many thanks,

Jim

Really there is no need to worry about this. Within 8 kms of the airport there are dozens of filling stations (I seem to recall there is even one in the airport campus). We topped up our hire car with diesel en route back to the airport from Marseille maybe 10kms from the airport and it was read as full by Hertz. You don%26#39;t need to use a filling station adjacent to the airport.

I recommend the gas station at Carrefour which is about 5 minutes away. The problem you might face is that once you are on the west side of D66, it is easy to become disoriented. Be careful about driving around looking for a gas station if time is tight.

There is a Total gas station right at the airport. Prices may not be as cheap as at the shopping center Sarastro mentioned, but if you are not wanting to drive into the shopping complex (traffic can be awful), you can tuck away the knowledge in your head that the Total is right there as you enter the airport circle.

You are so right Sarastro. I did get disorientated and always seemed to end up on the carriageway going away from the airport in the direction of Marseille City.Had left plenty of time to fill up and travel at a leisurely pace en route to the airport from Aix.Ended up in a panic and a lather of sweat. A timely warning from you for others.

Thanks for all of your answers. My mind is at ease now.

I normally travel into Nimes airport so travelling into Marseille is a first for me.

As you usually use Nimes I am sure there is no need to remind you if trying to fill up on a Sunday most filling stations seem to shut and only the card operated automatic pumps work.

If comming from the autoroute the only real option is the filling station on the airport - conveniently placed on the exit road so that you have to drive right around the airport to get to it.

You can find the details of petrol stations in any locality in France here:

www.prix-carburants.gouv.fr/

Enter the commune %26quot;Marignane%26quot; to search for local filling stations near Marseille airport. For instance, Relais de Bolmon is closest, you can see a local map, opening hours and prices.

We used this website to plan a 2000km trip around France and thus avoided the expensive Autoroute stations, knowing exactly where to stop and fill up for our next leg of the journey. It is also very handy for finding the nearest hypermarket like E.Leclerc.

As others have said, make sure you have an alternative. Many of the 24 hour stations are unattended. A number of them would unaccountably refuse our card, yet others nearby would quite happily accept it. We also arrived at one running on empty that was closed for refurbishment, but we had a backup programmed into the SatNav a couple of miles away.
