We are going to Lille in december and know nothing about the place. Travelling on eurostar and need to book a hotel which is not too expensive but do not know which area would be good to be in. We are middle aged and my husband would not want to walk miles to reach amenities. Any hep and advice would be appreciated very much.

There are many hotels in the centre of Lille that are reasonably inexpensive.
Do a search on this forum for Lille hotels and they come up in order of popularity, price or class. The dearest are not always the most popular nor the cheapest the worst.
We%26#39;ve stopped at Hotel de la Trielle close to the old town but at the end of December we%26#39;ve booked to stay at the Ibis Lille Opera right in the centre.
Where ever you stay in Lille you%26#39;ll not be far from bars, cafes and restaurants.
Lille is relatively flat and there are few inclines in the City if you are worried about walking.
To get a good insight into Lille see if you can either borrow from your local library or buy from Amazon a copy of Laurence Philips book, published by Bradt, -- %26#39;Lille Edition 2%26#39;
It costs about £7 from Amazon and tells you everything you%26#39;d want to know about Lille and surrounding area.

Thank you for your help Keith, I shall look for the book in the library tomorrow. Have booked a place to stay now the Citea Lille Vauban and am looking forward to the trip a bit more now. Will post how it goes when we get home.

It is quite a short walk from Lille Europe station into the town centre, but if the weather is bad (I hope it won%26#39;t be but it will be December) it can be rather exposed but you can walk at a lower level rather than along the footpath beside the road. You will see what I mean when you get there.
The Christmas Market, with associated attractions will be happening while you are. Wandering around, perhaps with mulled wine or beer, watching fmiles enjoy themselves is a good way of spending an hour or so in the evening.
Make use of the Tourist Office and I hope you have a good time.

Dear TA_MikeW,
I think it admirable that TA takes the time to welcome new posters to this forum.
However, pasting the same greeting over and over again, with mechanical repetition, lacks sincerity and posses all of the warmth and enthusiasm that one might show ants at a picnic.
How about injecting a bit of personality in these otherwise banal epistles.

I%26#39;ve posted a question about %26#39;Multiple Postings%26#39; on a Tripadvisor forum called - %26#39;Help us to make TripAdvisor better! forum%26#39;.
TA MikeW has replied on that forum giving his reasons and if you go there you can see other replies and opinions regarding multiple posts.

That%26#39;s not a bit of post-election blues creeping onto Tripadvisor, is it?
:-)
Cheers
