bank holiday transport and cheap nightlife

hi all

im going to paris on new years day, arriving in CDG around 10pm, was going to get a taxi to hotel but due to christmas and the credit crunch i am thinking it may be best to get RER and metro...

does anybody know if they will be running late at night on new years day? i have asked this before but need to be certain, if it of any use at all i believe the metro stop near our hotel is porte de montreuil arr 19/20, nr pere lechaise)

in addition to this i know paris can be an expensive place especially when it comes to alcohol! i am just wondering if anybody has any cheap suggestions on how to spend our evenings out there, whether it be cheap bars/restaurants or something more unusual?

sorry the post is long! thanks in advance it is much appreciated : )

LAST TRAIN for the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne, from CDG into Paris, will run at 23:56 (11:56 PM)

RER %26#39;B%26#39; Ligne Schedules--

http://www.ratp.info/horaires/

LAST TRAIN for most regular Metro lignes within Paris will run at approx. 00:40 (12:40 AM)

METRO Ligne Schedules--(PORTE de MONTREUIL station is on #9 Metro ligne)

www.ratp.info/orienter/horaires_metro1.php

New Year%26#39;s Day is a holiday, so train schedules will run on Sunday %26amp; Holiday schedules (%26#39;..Dimanches et jours fériés..%26#39;) frequency-between-trains will be a bit less frequently on RER and regular Metro lignes...but not so much as you%26#39;d notice.

The RER/Metro connection from CDG to PORTE de MONTREUIL Metro is a bit %26#39;..clunky..%26#39; and requires two ligne changes en route.

RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne to GARE du NORD....then transfer over to the #4 Metro ligne (heading in the direction of Porte de Orléans) to STRASBOURG-SAINT DENIS station, then transfer again to the #9 Metro ligne (heading in the direction of Mairie de Montreuil) to PORTE de MONTREUIL station....then from here to your hotel.

An economic alternative would be a combination of RER %26#39;B%26#39; as far as GARE du NORD, then a TAXI PARISIAN from the regular taxi rank on the upper-level of the station, to your hotel. (RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne fare: 8,40€ + approx. %26quot;B%26#39; taxi fare: 15€).

Last year on NYE the metro did run a bit later but only certain lines (ie 6 not 7). Wear your walking shoes, not party shoes out.

New Year%26#39;s Eve is a great excuse to charge more for everything including alcohol, you might have to check nearby your hotel for %26quot;good deals.%26quot;

thanks for the info, what do you mean by clunky? also do you know how long it would take approx

thanks again

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;what do you mean by clunky? also do you know how long it would take approx?%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

%26quot;..Clunky..%26#39; means onto and off of three(3) different trains...two ligne transfers en-route...Correspondances through stations...up %26#39;n down stairs...rolling luggage in your wake. (Getting the picture yet ??) It%26#39;s certainly possible and can certianly be done---but even later in the evening, with far fewer other users/riders to obstruct your passage---it%26#39;s...well...%26#39;..clunky..%26#39;.

I could probably make a %26#39;guestimate%26#39; that the trip from the CDG RER station to PORTE de MONTREUIL Metro station would take 60-80 minutes....but this might be a good opportunity to %26#39;poke around%26#39; within the RATP web site, figure out how the site and features work...and do your own calculations based on schedules, travel times, wait times, etc. In the process, you may also discover some of the other useful information and practical planning %26#39;..tools..%26#39; that the RATP site has to offer.

PS...for the most information and practical %26#39;tools%26#39;, it%26#39;s usually best to work your way through the French-language version of the site.
