I have been reading this forum and find Paris very confusing. My husband and I would like to go to paris in Oct. but can%26#39;t decide where to stay. Location is important to us. We would like this to be a romantic, relaxing trip but since we have never been to Paris I am getting stressed! We are in our 40%26#39;s, like to stroll and discover shops and cafes near our hotel. Great view of Eiffel tower or nice streets a plus. We would like to see the musuems as well. Prefer luxury hotel but the Four Seasons is a bit much. Thanks in advance.

Relax! It really isn%26#39;t that difficult...
First, from the sound of your post, I think you%26#39;d be happiest in the 6th arrondissement, somewhere close to the river. I understand the idea of wanting to have a view of the Eiffel Tower, but frankly the Tower is not the most central place in Paris and the area near it lacks most of the other things you seem to be looking for.
I think you might like Le Relais Christine. It%26#39;s a smallish hotel in an old building in a great location. It%26#39;s just a short walk from the Seine and very close to the Louvre, just across the river, and the Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame cathedral. The Musée d%26#39;Orsay and the Orangerie are both within walking distance as is the Cluny museum with its wonderful Unicorn tapestries.
There are delightful streets to explore in every direction and a selection of restaurants from small and inexpensive places all the way up the scale. There are splendid cafes and tearooms all around also and a wide and interesting selection of shops. At least one of the best wine shops in Paris is close by as is the open air market on rue de Buci, one of the most attractive in the city. And the lovely Jardin du Luxembourg is just far enough away to justify a visit to Dalloyau for a treat — as if any justification were needed...
There%26#39;s even the odd jazz bar not too far away should you have a hankerimg for something of the sort...
So have a look at the reviews on this and other sites and see what you think...

See if you can get a room on the 7th floor of the K %26amp; K Cayre hotel, facing west. You%26#39;ll have an unbelievable view of both the Eiffel tower and Les Invalides (beautiful golden dome housing Napoleon%26#39;s tomb). The Cayre is perfect for walking people, five minutes to d%26#39;Orsay, ten to Louvre, a half block off St. Germain, a 25 minute walk to Eiffel tower area. PLUS, the breakfasts (if you can get them included in rate) are to die for.

We stayed at the Regina Hotel in the 1st ARR. Historic luxury hotel and while “pricey”, not nearly as expensive as Ritz, Meurice, George V, etc. We had a good view of the Eiffel Tower from our room, which I requested when I made reservations via e-mail. Centrally located next to the Tuileries Garden and Louvre, walking distance to Opera, Notre Dame, LQ, Concorde, Vendome and the Ritz. The hotel often appears in film and catching a glimpse of it in Devil Wears Prada brought a smile to my face. The better cafes, however, are several blocks away, but the designer shops and others line Rue St Honour. The Champs Elyseesalso runs from the Louvre to the Arc de Triomphe, and is a good stroll for shopping as well as dining. Taxis were always %26lt;6 Euros to any central location, metro close by, as is the easy public #69 bus, and the L’Opentour buses, Batobus, and Cityrama is right next door if interested in tours. The 1st is a quiet area, however, and if you are looking for streets filled with excitement after dark, it is not the place for you.
The 7th ARR is also upscale, although a safe quiet area as well, the Rue de Dominick area is lined with shops and cafes. Close to Orsay and Invalides, and Eiffel tower is not far but I’m not familiar with hotels and their views.
The Latin Q is the place to be if you want a more exciting area after dark where you can walk around. Cafes and eclectic shops are everywhere and the famous bookseller stands are on the Left Bank as well. Hotel Lutecia is included in American Express Platinum hotel program, and compared with the top 5 star hotels they offer a good deal. Hotel d’Aubusson and Relais Christine get good reviews here. K%26amp;K is also very popular and more affordable and may have some rooms with Eiffel. There are many more hotels in the 6th, and some more quiet than others especially closer to Luxembourg gardens further away from Seine and St Michel area.
Montmartre and Montparnasse not centrally located for sightseeing. So I would suggest you stick with the hotels in 1, 5, 6,and 7th ARR for a first visit. Research hotels the posters here recommend, and also search for “Hotels Eiffel tower views” and a few will pop up.
Personally I would return to the Regina in a heartbeat, however, for something different I might be tempted by the Rive Gauche.

Look at the Brighton Hotel. Good reviews. Close to shops and restaurants

I think the 6th near the 7th (or 7th near the 6th would work). I would suggest Hotel Saint Simon but I live around the corner so I am partial to the neighborhood..just off rue du Bac and very quiet. You might consider Hotel d%26#39;Aubusson or L%26#39;Abbaye Saint Germain.

Just relax. Nowhere in central Paris (inside the Peripherique ring road) was more than a few hundred metres (yards, if you prefer) from a Metro station, and the Metro will take you quickly to any other part of central Paris.
The important thing is to be sure you are happy with your choice of hotel.
