Hotel Du Louvre, Chamonix

Just booked for a weekend break at the Hotel du Louvre in Chamonix but can%26#39;t find a single review anywhere.

Are there any experts who can vouch for it?

I know this Hotel well. It is run by a guy who speaks excellent english. The hotel is of real character (built near the turn of the century) and is right in the middle of Chamonix. I don%26#39;t think you can go far wrong.

The hotel is one of the most affordable in Chamonix and the staff is polite. I stayed for three nights so I could hit the slopes for two days, so I had no time to loose. The first night was a nightmare. The room had suffered extensive water damage and based on the smell it was not the first time it had happened. The wooden corner of the ceiling had decayed and deformed and looked horrendous. The wall-to-wall carpet which also covers the toilet floor was totally wet in the toilet as well as the wooden floor underneath it. The carpet smelled like an old wet dirty dog but worse. The carpet in the rest of the room was wet in several areas, so I had to use shoes inside up until I went to sleep. I had to keep the windows open quite a bit in order to get some of the smell out. It did not help much. The end result was that the room was cold and very damp all night. One would expect to get used to the smell during a night of sleep (I was very tired), but instead I woke up to a very strong smell of mould, rotten wood and a stinging sickening smell which is indescribeable. The next nights I had a better room which I thought was ok. Still the blankets are very thin and the plasticky cover underneath the bed is uncomfortable. The smell in this room was of mosquito repellent and the car alarms kept going off in the parking lot outside.

I asked the Hotel to consider a considerable discount on the room price. I felt I should get at the least half of the price off the first night and that it would be more than appropriate to get it for free. I told them this and the hotel mannager got the message.

After I had asked a couple of times for them to consider the discount, they would only give about a 17 € discount from the initial 59 € price. They have my VISA number and I had no time to change Hotels unless I was going to sacrifice a day of skiing so what could I do?

I would not use this hotel again. I would not want to risk my holiday again. All I have said here is true and as I said the Hotel staff was very polite.

Hi stayed here in jan last year flew out to chamonix with no where to stay for 4 days in the middle of christmas and new year week really did start to panic.

Then right in the middle of chamonix where prices at this time of the year are in the high 100s i stumbled across the louvre.

The staff were brilliant i stayed in the attic part of the hotel for the 3 days and found it just fine.

To have accomodation smack bang in the middle of chamonix square for such a cheap price is amazing. Even so i have booked to go back for new year this year leaving it to late again i phoned them up and got a double room for me and my girlfriend for 45 a night brilliant!!!!.

For somewhere so central and so cheap this hotel is a sure winner!!
