Going from Nice to Monte Carlo for Fireworks next week

We will be in Nice for a week starting on Sunday the 16th. I understand that there is a fireworks display over Monte Carlo on the eve of the national holiday (November 18th).

Has anyone been to this? What should we expect for crowds, and where is the best viewing area?

Does anyone know if there is expanded public transportation that night? We are not sure if we will be able to catch a bus or train back to Nice.

Thank you for your help!

I%26#39;ve not been to the National Day fireworks, but I%26#39;ve been to plenty of the Firework Competitions in summer.

According to the press, they will be down at the Port Hercule and will be set to music. This sounds exactly like the summer ones, which usually are set off from the new jetty. In fact I remember reading that no cruise ships would be in the day before the national day because of the fireworks, so it must be the same as in summer.

If you want to hear the music as well as see the fireworks, then your best vantage point is probably from the quayside at the port. If you%26#39;re not too worried about the music (as we aren%26#39;t), then we usually see them from the gardens behind the casino, overlooking the port. In both cases, you%26#39;ll need to make your way there about 20 to 30 mins before they start to get a place at the front (assuming there%26#39;ll be as many people as in summer). However, we%26#39;ve sometimes turned up 5 mins beforehand and still been able to get a good view.

For transport, I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;ll be a bus. Even tho%26#39; the night buses say they run the night before a public holiday, I think this applies to French public holidays, not Monegasque ones. The trains will be running tho%26#39;. There%26#39;s usually one at about 22.15, then the next is about midnight.

Thank you for this great information! It sounds like it will be easy enough to get back and forth.
