1-2 days around Christmas time

Hi-we are staying in southern Germany for ten days over the holidays and would love to visit the Alsace Lorraine area and include Strasbourg. It will take us about two hours to get to Strasbourg. We are travelling with our adult sons so would like to find activities and towns that they would enjoy. Any suggestions on where to stay or what to do?

It depends on your interests and the ages of your sons.

There is a good motor museum in Mulhouse (although if you are in Germany you may have already planned to go to the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart). There is an amusement park near Freiburg - www.europapark.de - if you like rollercoasters etc. The vineyards around Colmar are not at their best in winter, although the medieval architecture in the small villages is always amazing if that is an interest. There is skiing in both the Vosges and the Black Forest, although Christmas time is a little early the places with artificial snow machines will mostly be open, if only partly.

If you want to go a bit further in to Lorraine the historic cities of Metz and Nancy have cathedrals, palaces and buildings from the Prussian and Austro-Hungarian periods, and there is also a lot of history from the 2 world wars if that interests you (eg Verdun battlegrounds).

Colmar is a convenient place to stay as it is in the middle of the Alsace.

Hi thanks for the info. Our sons are adults, ages 27 and 28. I think the WWII places would be very interesting. It seems like we will have no shortage a beautiful villages and we are going to Salzburg at the end of the trip so can ski then if snow permits.
