My husband and I are taking a road trip from Brussels. We are spending one night in Reims and would like to explore Epernay on Sunday. Since we have toured many big house cellars in the past we are really looking to sample and purchase champagne at the smaller houses and not do a cellar tour.
Can anyone rec. any small houses in Epernay possibly close to Moet? We have a GPS so as long as they have an address, we can get there.
Thanks.

As you haven%26#39;t had a response I%26#39;ll try to help a little.
Been to Epernay a couple of times and strolled the centre but can%26#39;t recall anywhere which fits your criteria, though there may well be such a place somewhere in the town.
If you follow the well signposted %26#39;Champagne Route%26#39; from Epernay it will take you through the vineyards on the hillsides and also through the villages. There are many individual producers in the villages or just along the route with the invitation %26#39;degustation%26#39; signed outside. Usually a family member will greet, explain, and pour. All with personal attention, unlike the big name houses.
I%26#39;ve visited several small producers and enjoyed the experiences though each was different, although you don%26#39;t know the product until you taste it, unlike the big name houses.
As an added bonus, if you find a small producer champagne you realy like, the value for money will be noticably better than the big name houses.
Some even offered to ship cases to England for me, at cost plus delivery which would be a very good price for the quality.

Like The Travelling Tyke suggested, there are plenty of small producers in the little villages around Epernay.
We have just come back from that area and one that we enjoyed was Champagne William Saintot. 4 rue Charles de Gaulle - 51160 Avenay Val D%26#39;or. Not expensive and open 7 days a week.
In Epernay there is also a little wine bar called C. Comme Champagne on 8 rue Gambetta. They feature tastings of several champagnes for about 3.50 euros per tasting. But they stock hundreds of different products from small producers. Not expensive compared to the large houses.
And a couple of doors down is a great little restaurant
called La Cave a Champagne....16 rue Gambetta. Great food.
