We%26#39;ve been going to La Matelote for many years and always found it to be exceptionally good, if a little over-formal. On a recent visit however, we were very, very disappointed. Not only did our waitress not smile, she hardly looked at us. Service was slow and not exactly welcoming. My wife%26#39;s main course of lamb (La piece d%26#39;agneau roti) had much fat and gristle but very little meat whilst our friend%26#39;s turbot (La darne de turbot pochee) was tasteless and undercooked in the middle. The plates, barely touched, were removed with no comment; a recognition that we had clearly not enjoyed our food would have been welcome. At about 90 euros per head for two courses, wine and coffee this was not an experience that we plan to repeat. How sad.
