We will be in Paris on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. What attractions (museums, sites etc...) are open those days. Also, are restaurants generally open those days or do they close to observe the holiday.

The French do not celebrate Christmas like the English or The Americans. Although more lights are up now it is still a quiet family affair done mainly on Christmas eve. Food and wine are plentiful and is eaten from late evening into the early hours of Christmas day. Christmas day is spent quietly sleeping it all off and then it%26#39;s back to work the following day. Tap in the museum/site etc.on the web to check if open but I think most will be closed.

Thank you. Do restaurants generally close on those days or do they stay open for people to eat out?

I think they would but I am sure there must be someone who lives in Paris who can answer better than me

You can always eat at a hotel restaurant. A lot of them are quite good and they will all be open on those days.

We were hoping to avoid the hotel restaurants and have no doubt we will find food to eat (this is Paris after all), but was curious how hard I was going to have to hunt for a place that is open-in the US many restaurants close early on Christmas eve and do not open at all on Christmas Day.

If you are planning to eat in a %26#39;good%26#39; restuarant Christmas eve I think it would be an idea to book before hand.

Is Christmas day a legal holiday in France? The website for Versailles says it is open eveyday except %26quot;certain legal holidays%26quot; and does not say whether it is open on Christmas day or even if it closes early on Christmas eve.

Just checked up for you on the French site and it says it is closed the 25th December.
Château fermé le lundi ainsi que les 25 décembre et 1er janvier
