Help! Trip Ruined. Need Schengen Visa Fast

I%26#39;m an American Citizen and I%26#39;ve never had to apply for Visa when traveling. My wife is a permanent resident and I didn%26#39;t realize that she needs a visa to travel to France. We booked a trip to Paris and were all giddy and set to go in two days.

I called the French consulate and they say that because she has a Philippine passport it will take 2 weeks to get a visa. No way around this.

I just had a thought. Since most of Europe uses schengen visa maybe I can get this visa from some other consulate that works faster?

Right now we basically need a same day schengen visa.

A friend said try Dutch, British, and Belgium.

Any advice would be appreciated. My wife is heartbroken and so am I.

rescheduling will be tough.

I believe Schengen visa has to be obtained from consulate of the country where you are first planning to arrive. If your first place of arrival is France, you will need Schengen visa issued by a French consulate.

Good luck and I hope things work out for you.

I am no expert on obtaining a visa, but picked up my French work visa in one day at a consulate. I am sure there is one in the New York area, have you been there and asked?

Here is a list of all of the Schengen countries, a visa from any of these countries should work for entry:

Austria Belgium Czech Republic Denmark

Estonia Finland France Germany

Greece Hungary Iceland Italy

Latvia Lithuania Luxembourg Malta

Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal

Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden

I called the French consulate. If my wife were not from the set of countries on a list (potential terrorist countries) it would just take one day. But because she has a Philippine passport they have to send it back to France for processing.

My idea is travel to another Schengen country and visit Paris from there.

But I don%26#39;t know if there is a consulate that processes this visa faster.

%26lt;%26lt;

The second answer is relevant to you : you have to enter Schengen territory through your prominent destination country - France in your case, and the French consulate is responsible for issuing the visa. However, if you are heading to several destinations, it is possible to enter through a different country than the one responsible for issuing the visa. The %26quot;Dutch%26quot; solution might then work if you make arrangements for the Netherlands.

But - and I hate to say this - given the current attitude of Europe towards immigration, it will be certainly WAY tougher to get your visa than to reschedule.

I think it%26#39;s not that simple for nationals of certain countries to get a Schengen visa. The details for applying can be found at the website of the Dutch Embassy in Washington: www.netherlands-embassy.org/article.asp…

They mention: %26quot;Please be advised that applications must be submitted at least 3 weeks in advance.%26quot;

In view of the paperwork involved, that%26#39;s probably not an exaggeration: the embassy can require a lot of documents regarding employment, purpose of the trip, proof of sufficient funds, etc.)
