My fiancé and I are planning on spending 10-14 days in Europe for our honeymoon next year. We would like to divide our time evenly between two larger European cities. We will not have a car, so we will rely on public transportation.
Would you recommend Marseille as one of our cities to spend half our honeymoon in? If so, what type of sites would you recommend seeing as couple? I am very into history, she is interested in art, and of course we will be spending a lot of time just being together and enjoying one another%26#39;s company.
Also, if you think there are any other cities in Europe you would recommend (besides the obvious ones of Paris, etc) for a honeymoon, please let me know.
Thank you!

Congratulations Downola !!!
Without knowing the month, but for you it will be mild, I think Venice would be exceptional for a honeymoon, the canals and the ambience, and the slow pace. There is easy transportation available by rr to see nearby places for a day trip as well.
I like the Mediteranean area, very scenic and beautiful, Marseille, Nice, Barcelona are all in lovely settings, but unlike Venice, without a car, you may miss out on what the area has to offer. There will be many others offering their opinions here as well.
Good Luck to the couple !!

I would say Nice was ideal for honeymoons without a car -its a very attractive city and historic [small Roman amphitheatre] with plenty of art galleries and museums -even a highly decorated Russian Cathedral with colourful onion domes.
Public transport is excellent and very, very cheap connecting to mediaeval villages, mountains, arty crafty places, perfumeries etc and Italy is just 40- 50 minutes away by local train.
Monaco/Monte carlo is easily reached by bus [one euro per ticket] or 20 mins on the train.

Another vote for Nice from me taking account of your interests and circumstances.Yes Venice is unforgettable, but it is not large it is overcrowded, expensive and a week would be 4 days too long.I have stayed in Nice and Venice the latter is totally exhausting. Nice is great for art galleries, history, public transport and accessibility to other cities particularly Monte Carlo and North Italy. And although my honeymoon was nearly 40 years ago I wish it had been in Nice. But then I didn%26#39;t appreciate in my 20s what I appreciate and value now.

Thank you for the advice every one. I have been to France twice, once to Paris and once to Caen - the trip to Paris was a disaster, Caen was so so, but I have a friend who currently lives in Lyon and keeps insisting that Southern France, especially Mediterranean France, is like a completely different world. I will certainly put Nice near the top of the list!
