I am interested in visiting Burgundy with visits to wineries in the fall, 2009. I would like to avoid the harvest. What are the usual times of harvest? What is it like visiting just before or after harvest? Thanks.

In the past 5 years, harvest dates have varied widely. In 2003, the harvest started in the 3rd week August and ended by the 1st week of September. On the other hand, this year, it did not start till the end of September and went on into October. Hence, your question is a difficult one.
Normally 1st week of September you would be OK to visit unless there%26#39;s another heatwave year like 2003. To be sure of avoiding harvest, I%26#39;d think about coming over in the 2nd half of October when the wine is likely to be bubbling in the vats and winemakers have some time to talk with you.
