best route to luxembourg through scenic france??????

hi there could you please tell me what routes will be nice to take if i was to drive to luxembourg from boulogne su mer in france? i would like to see nice scenery on the way but at same time would want the easiest and fastest route to luxembourg.

btw my cousin is driving from london so will be using a right hand drive car. is it difficult to drive in europe with a right hand car? thanks

ok jus to rephrase that question, here%26#39;s two easier questions to answer i hope that would make it easier for me also.

1. what is the fastest route to luxembourg from boulogne su mer and how long does it take, if making only necessary pitstops?

2. what is the best scenic route to luxembourg from boulogne su mer?

possible 3. if anyone could combine the two, taht would be great!!!

also does anyone think it%26#39;s possible to do this in a day??

i know my post mentions luxembourg but i am asking in this forum for the best route THROUGH france, i want to see france too! thanks

Re driving an English car on the continent... it%26#39;s done all the time.

You as the passenger may have to tell your cousin when the road is clear to pass on 2 lane roads though.

Check with one of the autoclubs as I believe there are stickers that need to be affixed to the headlights to prevent blinding oncoming cars at night as English lights are aimed differently.

On the other hand, having driven a right hand drive in France I can tell you parallel parking is a doddle! LOL

Regarding your route and travel to Luxembourg... if I just tell you the answer you%26#39;ll get lost tomorrow so how about I show you how to figure this yourself?

Go to http://maps.google.com

Under the Google logo at the top left you%26#39;ll see %26quot;Directions%26quot;... click it and enter Boulogne, France in the topmost of the 2 boxes. Beneath it enter the town in Luxembourg you wish to go to... click the %26quot;Get Directions%26quot; button and there you go... your route and estimated travel time. You can use options to avoid motorways, toll roads etc if you prefer.

If you%26#39;d like to change the suggested route put your cursor on the blue route line and drag it to where you%26#39;d like to go... or used %26#39;add destination%26#39; and type in another town you%26#39;d like to see enroute...

Have fun!

hi rob, thank you for your useful information. i guess it will be easier for my cousin if i help, wonder how hard it would have been for her if she was to drive around on her own!

i will try using that website you mentioned. i just thought someone out there would know any hidden routes or paths that would get me there faster! do you think going through france stopping here and there to take pictues before arriving in luxembourg could be done in just over half a day?

also do you know how traffic is like? considering we may be going next friday morning

oh sorry about your message beingincluded, i couldn%26#39;t remember everything so i had to paste it in and was about to delete it but i forgot before posting it!

We%26#39;ve driven from Calais towards Metz, though unfortunately, I can%26#39;t remember the exact route we used. To me, much of that part of northern France feels melancholy with the combination of WW1 war graves and memorials as well as the remnants of the mining industry. However, one area which was very attractive was around Givet, on the river Meuse almost surrounded by Belgium. It was fortified, but at least it was beside the river and surrounded by forests.

Thinking about a possible route, you could head straight for Arras, and have a look at the Grand%26#39;Place which is lovely Flemish baroque (though if you%26#39;re from Holland, that may not be too unusual), then head towards the Ardennes forest http://www.ardennes.com/uk/index.aspx# I%26#39;ve just forced Google maps to do a route from Boulogne to Arras, Valenciennes, Mauberge and Givet, and it%26#39;s coming up as 450km/6+ hours.

If you get hold of the Michelin roadbook for the area, it%26#39;s easy to check which roads they consider scenic, as they are lined with green. Your cousin may not thank you if you try to complete the whole journey on scenic roads though. From experience travelling routes nationales in a wrong-hand drive car, it can be quite stressful for relationships between driver and passenger if they are trying to gauge gaps to overtake slower-moving traffic.

Aha! You haven%26#39;t played with Google Maps yet then I%26#39;ll bet! ;^)

Try it! The first route it gives is via Dunkirk and

into Belgium... total estimated time 4 hours 27 mins

for 446 KM. That seems a bit too fast for me...

As I mentioned, you can play with the route and see

what works...
